So what do I like to do for fun?
I enjoy going to the cinema, but I don't get to go as much as I'd like. When I lived in Portugal it was my favorite pastime. Hollywood couldn't produce movies fast enough for me then. Although I was always interested in media and film, it wasn't until I went to Berkeley that I realised that it could be a serious academic pursuit. I'd like to look seriously at film in the future, but until then you'll have to settle for my paper on Howard Hawks' His Girl Friday. My favorite movies are Blade Runner, I Went Down, Barcelona, and L.A. Story.
I don't get to read much, but my favorite authors are Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Haruki Murakami.
I'm not athletic, but I do enjoy a swim - in the pool of course. Swimming in the Atlantic requires a wet suit ten months of the year.
I also enjoy music. While at UCC I was an active member of the Choral Society. That was a lot of fun and one of the spin-offs from that was Ireland's first tuna. A tuna is a Spanish style male student choir. I enjoy music from different parts of the world, especially bands like Madredeus from Portugal.
Right now I spend most of my free time on my photography. I'm taking a course in photography this year and it's given me a good excuse to spend time doing something I have always enjoyed. At UCC I was dark room officer for the photography society for a number of years. If you'd like to see how that's going then take a look at my photography page.
